I have committed to walking 200kms to help raise funds for MS Research this year as part of the May50K.
In case you're scratching your head, how am I able to aim to shoot 150kms over the normal 50km mark? The organisers have allowed participants to execute their goals whenever they want. I will be achieving my goals between 1 April and 31 May 2021, and pleased to report on 24 April, I have already walked 136kms.
This initiative is very personal for me for two reasons.
In primary school, I used to participate annually in the MS Readathon, so the charity brings back some fond memories of great books and moments from my childhood.
In addition, and very sadly, my very kind and extremely talented High School Music Teacher, Mrs Garside, was diagnosed with MS a few years after I left school and was forced to retire from teaching. I was very lucky to have experienced her influence and guidance. She was instrumental in developing my musical appreciation, opening up my mind to possibilities and provided hundreds of students with life changing opportunities they have never forgot.
If you would like to donate to MS Australia directly, please kindly go to my web page on the May50K website: https://www.themay50k.org/fundraisers/justinmckee/the-may-50k
