On Saturday 18 June 2022, existing MJ Piano Lessons students, parents and siblings have been invited to gather for a free and special event: 'A Morning of Making Music'. This event is part of the international celebrations for ‘Make Music Day’.

The performance and workshop style event is structured to provide valuable opportunities for both students and their parents to share and learn. The primary aim of this concert is to give younger students an opportunity to gain experience playing a piece or two, without the pressure of having to ‘perform’. The experience can be quite nerve wracking, which is why the children select their own pieces, the dress code is casual and the audience is limited to parents and siblings.

This event will give some of our younger students their very first moment of playing a piece in front of an audience and for many, their first chance at playing a grand piano.

A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the 'All Rounder Awards 2022', an award designed to help set some goals for the mid-year for our younger school students from KG to Year 10. An award will be given to those who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd for their practical, technical and musical theory efforts during Term 2, 2022.

The opportunities available go to the heart of why the internationally celebrated Make Music Day was first incepted some 38 years ago in France. Make Music Day was started by Jack Lang in 1982 to bring people together of all ages and musical capability to experience the joy of performing and playing music. Program: Students will perform up to two pieces each. A workshop will be delivered about what happens during a face-to-face exam and how to maximise practice time at home.

Dress code: Casual attire to help create a relaxed atmosphere for the little ones. COVID measures: Masks are recommended and they will be made available to anyone who wants one. The piano keys will be wiped down between performances. Organiser: Justin McKee, Piano Teacher at MJ Piano Lessons.
